Privacy & Cookies Policy

1.1 Data we collect through the Software

MAC addresses. When you activate a licence, the Software collects the MAC addresses of your device's network interfaces. This is sent to our licence server and used solely to register and verify your licence on your device.

Anonymous usage statistics. On first install or when updating to a new version, the Software sends anonymous data to our server: software version, whether it is a new install or an upgrade, and your country derived from your IP address. No personal information such as your name or email address is collected through the Software.

Licence credentials. When you activate a licence, the Software sends your licence ID and password to our licence server for validation. These credentials are transmitted securely.

Email address. Collected during purchase and licence registration on our website, not within the Software. It is used to send important communications and updates related to the Software and your licence.

IP addresses. We store your IP address when you download the Software, visit our purchase page or activate a licence. This is used for abuse prevention, including detecting excessive download activity and rate-limiting activation requests. IP addresses stored for abuse prevention are retained for up to 12 months and are not used for marketing or shared with third parties.

1.2 Network connections

The Software connects to the following external services during normal operation:

• ·license.simpledmx.net - licence validation and activation
• ·app.simpledmx.net - anonymous install and update tracking
• ·pool.ntp.org - time verification for licence date validation

The Software may also open links to buy.simpledmx.net and forum.simpledmx.net in your default browser. An internet connection may be required for licence activation, reactivation and date verification.

1.3 How we use this data

• ·MAC addresses - to register, verify and enforce single-device licensing
• ·Anonymous usage statistics - internal analytics, understanding adoption, improving the Software
• ·Email address - licence-related communications and important updates
• ·Licence credentials - to validate and activate your licence
• ·IP addresses - abuse prevention, rate limiting, protecting service availability

We do not use any of this data for marketing. We do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties, except where disclosure is required by law.

1.4 Data retention

Licence data (MAC addresses, licence ID, activation dates) is retained for the duration of your licence and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle reactivation and support requests. Anonymous usage statistics are retained indefinitely in aggregated form. Email addresses are retained for as long as you hold an active or expired licence, or until you request deletion.

1.5 Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

Contract performance. Processing of MAC addresses, licence credentials and email is necessary for performance of the licence agreement between you and us (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Legitimate interest - statistics. Collection of anonymous usage statistics is based on our legitimate interest in understanding how the Software is used and improving it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may opt out by contacting us.

Legitimate interest - security. Storage of IP addresses for abuse prevention and rate limiting is based on our legitimate interest in protecting the security and availability of our services (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may object to this processing by contacting us, though we may need to retain the data where there is an overriding legitimate reason.

2.1 What are cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site operate correctly, improve performance and provide a more personalised experience.

2.2 Cookies we use

This website sets no cookies of its own. There is no cookie consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

The one exception is a short-lived session cookie created only if you start a download or send a message through the contact form. It exists to make that single request work, holds no personal information, and is discarded when you close your browser.

2.3 Analytics and tracking

We run no analytics, no advertising, no remarketing and no social media tracking on this website. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager and no third-party tracking script of any kind.

2.4 Third-party services

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers to fetch them; Google receives your IP address as part of that request. No cookies are set by this.

Licence purchases are handled by FastSpring on their own checkout pages, under their privacy policy. The download page reads the current version number from our own server.

2.5 Managing cookies through your browser

You can manage cookies through your browser settings - deleting existing cookies, blocking new ones by default, or receiving alerts before cookies are placed. Disabling certain cookies may affect how the website functions.

3.1 Your data protection rights

Under GDPR and applicable Danish law you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• ·Erasure - request deletion of your data
• ·Restriction - request that we limit how we use your data
• ·Objection - object to processing based on legitimate interest

3.2 Data security

We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction, in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.

3.3 Data transfers

Your data is primarily processed within the European Economic Area. Where data is transferred outside the EEA - for example when your browser fetches fonts from Google - we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with GDPR requirements.

3.4 Children's privacy

Our Software and website are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this policy at any time to reflect changes in our practices or to comply with legal requirements. Changes become effective when posted on our website. Continued use of the Software or website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
